How to buy and sell art in a time of coronavirus

Even before the world collapsed in on itself with the outbreak of COVID-19, art was selling online. Online art sales grew almost 10% last year, totalling $4.64 billion. Almost 5 billion dollars in art sales online!

As we hunker down, our faces have totally turned to art online. The institutions we love, like The Met, the National Gallery and even regional galleries like Goulburn are reaching out to us on our phones and laptops like never before.

For me, I was set to show my work at The Other Art Fair Los Angeles last week. After sell-out shows with The Other Art Fair Sydney ( which led to introductions to commercial galleries and great shows with Michael Reid Murrurundi ) I had great expectations from The Other Art Fair LA and had created work especially for this show.

So rather than despair, Saatchi Art pivoted. They once again turned their focus online. They created The Other Online Studios. This was a rare chance to put a specific focus on all the artists participating in The Other Art Fair LA. And share The Other Art Fair LA with their worldwide audience.

The Other Online Studios Los Angeles launches today and it’s a great way to enjoy all the artists showcasing their work – in an online environment. Take a look and let me know what you think.

There’s been other surprises as well. Art Edit magazine reached out to me today to see what they could do to lend their support in a time of COVID-19. They’ll be sharing my work through their Instagram channel.

It’s been incredible to see the art industry support each other through this weird, crazy time. And who know where it might lead? Let’s hope it’s a closer community sharing their ideas and artwork with a broader art-loving world. Our love for art may be even stronger after all this.
